PL/SQL Fundamentals

PL/SQL Fundamentals:

Students enrolled in this class will learn the basics of Oracle’s PL/SQL language.  We’ll explore procedures, functions, and packages, learning what the differences are and when it’s right to use each.

Pupils will learn to write loops, and understand the pitfalls associated with the various looping structures in PL/SQL.  We meet the various control structures, and understand the PLSQL datatypes.

Students will learn basic debugging skills and techniques for robust exception handling.  We’ll also examine techniques for writing efficient PL/SQL such as arrays and bulk collect.  The curriculum will be rounded out with best practices that you can employ in your own coding.

The last day of the class is reserved for more advanced topics and can be tailored to suit the needs of the attendees.  Available concepts include pipelined functions, bulk inserts, dynamic SQL, and associative arrays.

This hands-on course employs a combination of instructor-led lectures and student practice coding to reinforce concepts.  All coding will be done using Oracle’s free SQL Developer product. A working knowledge of basic SQL is helpful for understanding and completion of the exercises in this class.
